Drying in the dishwasher is the last step in the processing of cutlery. Thanks to this function, the dishes completely get rid of moisture residues, so that the user takes out clean and dry plates, cups, and spoons. Manufacturers offer various types of drying in PMM - for every taste and budget. Do you like to save resources, like speed and fast result? What technology is better to choose, consider in the article.
Types of Drying
Previously, all Bosch and other brands of dishwashers used only one type of drying. Today there are already several varieties of this function - the choice depends on the goal that you are pursuing. Let's consider each technology separately.
Condensing or capacitor type
This is one of the first dryers that appeared in dishwashers, is still used in the models "Bosch", "Milli". Some manufacturers mark it as turbothermic or static.
The dishes dry naturally, which saves energy. At the end of washing, the appliances are bathed in hot water, then the hopper door begins to open slightly. Due to the temperature difference on the walls of the compartment, condensate is collected, which subsequently flows into a special compartment.
+ resource saving, satisfactory result.
- long wait, the plates may dry for a day.
Convection or convection type
Turbo dryer is used in most modern PMM (Electrolux, Korting, Smeg, Miele). In the descriptions of technology you can find such a name - hot air drying. Suitable for those who value their time, as the dishes dry out in minutes.
In the dishwasher there is an additional heater and a fan. The heater constantly heats the air, and the fan pumps it into the hopper. Cutlery has hot air, so it dries quickly.
+ speed, improved drying quality.
- high energy consumption, overpriced equipment.
Intensive (active) type
Dishes with intensive (active) drying are dried much more efficiently. Users note the absence of droplets and stains on the surface with reduced power consumption. How does the function work? To reduce the price of PMM, the manufacturer decided to apply the laws of physics.
Around the dishwasher chamber is a heat exchanger filled with cold water. The temperature in the bunker is much higher, so there is a difference in pressure. Also nearby is an air collector that releases streams. Due to pressure, air circulates through the chamber.
+ economical energy consumption, better efficiency than the condensation type.
- Dries dishes longer than convection technology.
Zeolite type
A new development based on a natural material - zeolite, is found only in the latest NEFF and Bosch models. The mineral is located at the bottom of the hopper. As soon as water gets on it, it heats up, transferring heat to the chamber. A hot air stream helps to dry dishes. After opening the door there is no steam - this is a huge plus. Also, the technology does not consume energy, because the zeolite will work until the end of the service life of the PMM.
Less - the high cost of such dishwashers.
Intelligent type
This technology is truly amazing. A sensor is built into the machine that scans the temperature inside the room. If the room is hot, then drying includes cold air blowing devices. If it’s cool, then the last rinse will be done with hot water.
A similar feature can be found in the Milli models. Some PMMs come with an ultraviolet lamp that sterilizes and dries dishes after washing.
Want to save even more? Then turn off the dishwasher at the last rinse, pull out the plates and use the open type dryer - “the old fashioned way”.
Classes and Modes
Not only modern technologies determine the quality of drying. Class A, B, C, D and so on have a great influence. Class A is considered the most effective in the amount of residual moisture. However, users note that in different machines the class manifests itself in different ways. For example, with a static type of drying, even when the efficiency mark is “A”, moisture still remains on the surface. See the table below:
Class | Residual Moisture Index |
A | more than 1.08 |
B | 0,86–1,08 |
C | 0,69–0,86 |
D | 0,55–0,69 |
E | 0,44–0,55 |
F | 0,33–0,44 |
G | less than 0.33 |
Which class to choose, you decide. When buying equipment, compare the power of the built-in functions with it.
The instructions for use indicate how to enable rinsing and drying in the dishwasher. Modern technology is filled with other useful functionality. For example, a special Dosageassist compartment holds a washing tablet. Therefore, it does not get on the dishes, which improves the quality and reduces the rinsing time.
We hope our article will help you make the right choice. Remember: expensive is not always good.
