For many centuries, wild rose has been helping people. Let us and we will consider the beneficial properties and contraindications of rose hips. How to prepare a decoction and infusion of berries to maximize its healing effect on the body? If in your garden or near it there is no dogrose, plant, you will not regret. This perennial shrub with dark red tart fruits is popularly called the wild rose and forest healer. In the spring, rose hip pleases the eye with delicate pink, scarlet and cream flowers, spreading its delicate aroma. He also has strong sharp thorns, which is why the fruits are recommended to be gathered in tight fabric gloves.
Rosehip Description
This representative of the Pinks family has a rather attractive appearance, which allows him to be used in landscape design. With its help, summer cottages are often decorated, the territory is zoned, hedges are created. It can be found in Europe, Asia, North America, New Zealand, Australia and Africa. In our country, rose hips grow throughout the territory of the former USSR, but the greatest variety of varieties can be found precisely in mountainous regions.
Shrub height rarely exceeds 2 meters. Usually the bushes are lush and sprawling. And very prickly ... Rosehip bushes bloom in May-June, the fruits ripen in August and remain on the branches until winter. Rosehip berries can be regular round, can be oval.

The most widespread species is cinnamon rose hip, which is most often found in summer cottages, in front gardens near the entrances of apartment buildings, in parks.
When is the dogrose collected and how to save it
For the preparation of medicinal potions, not only berries are used, but also branches, petals, roots. Useful raw materials are collected in the fall (usually in September), until the first frost sets in.
You should know that even a weak frost will have a detrimental effect on the healing qualities of a dog rose!
The fruits are dried simply - they are laid out in a thin layer on a clean surface, in a shaded, well-ventilated room or in the fresh air. Unlike, for example, pears or apples, these berries cannot be dried under direct sunlight - exposure to ultraviolet light “kills” their beneficial components. Ideally, the drying time should take 8-9 hours, since with a longer process, the medicinal properties of rose hips are lost.
For these purposes, you can also use the oven, at a temperature of 45-50 degrees and the door ajar, the fruits are dried for about 6-7 hours. Properly dried berries should retain their dark red (or orange) color, wrinkle and slightly decrease in size.
It is recommended to store medicinal raw materials in cloth bags or glass containers, the shelf life is a maximum of 2 years. As for the roots and branches, before drying, they should be thoroughly washed with cold water and cut (for example, secateurs) into small fragments. The petals are dried in the shade, on a clean cloth, laid out in a thin layer and covered with gauze to prevent swelling by the wind and uninvited visits by insects.
Today, wild rose is part of many drugs. Oil, syrup and rosehip juice can be purchased not only in pharmacies, but also in most supermarkets. You can stock up on useful raw materials on your own or purchase ready-made collected and properly dried fruits or bark.
I mention one more uncommon, but great way to store fruits - pureeing. To make mashed berries, you need to rinse them well, remove the stalks and seeds from the inside, then kill them with a blender or scroll in a meat grinder. Such a product can be stored in the freezer for about a year, without losing its qualities.
Rosehip - benefits for men and women
How is rosehip useful? Due to its composition, it is in demand in both official and traditional medicine. It contains an extensive list of vitamins: B1, IN2, IN6, C, K, PP, E, which positively affect the functions of internal organs, regulate vascular tone, improve blood composition and quality, maintain its coagulability within normal limits, and ensure the rate of hemoglobin recovery. The fruits contain ascorbic acid in record quantities. And also - provitamin A, chromium, calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, magnesium, glycosides, tannins, organic acids, anthocyanins, essential oils, etc.
Useful components of this plant have the same positive effect on both the male and female body. Due to its rich composition (especially vitamin C), it is an excellent prophylactic and therapeutic agent for beginning infectious diseases. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect of rose hips makes it indispensable during seasonal colds: it strengthens the immune system and creates a powerful shield against diseases.
In addition to the general effect that strengthens and supports the body, rosehip improves the functioning of the heart and blood vessels, normalizes blood pressure (more on this below), helps with anemia, and helps to remove cholesterol.
Plus, the main and “popular” advantage of this plant is the diuretic effect. Thanks to this, rose hip has for many centuries been considered one of the best natural remedies for "expelling" excess fluid from the body. The positive effect on the genitourinary system is a significant improvement in cystitis, pyelonephritis, the presence of sand and kidney stones and other inflammations in this area.
The healing properties of rose hips extend to the work of the digestive tract. With gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and pancreas, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, it is recommended to take decoctions / infusions from the fruits on a regular basis. The use of a decoction of rose hips with gynecological and andrological ailments is very effective - as an auxiliary and preventive measure.
External use of infusions from berries or bark / shoots of a plant helps in healing wounds, soothes various skin irritations, and relieves swelling. Rosehip tea is also recommended for those who are struggling with extra pounds.
Decoction, photo:
In general, decoctions and teas based on rose hips accelerate the restoration of the body's vitality, and contribute to the rapid elimination of toxins in case of poisoning. It is noteworthy that the use of rose hips does not impose a ban on the simultaneous use of other drugs and medications. Of course, everything should be in moderation, and you should not consider it a panacea for all diseases, it is only a powerful additional tool against the background of the main treatment for serious diseases. Also, he can cope with non-chronic ailments, especially if the treatment dose is regular. To activate the body's defenses, it is especially recommended to use rose hips for older people.
Contraindications and harm to rose hips
In order not to harm yourself and loved ones, you need to know about contraindications to the use of this natural medicine.
Rosehip can be dangerous for people suffering from:
- allergy to plants;
- gastritis, exacerbation of a stomach ulcer and pancreas;
- increased blood coagulability (thrombosis or tendency to it);
- bronchial asthma;
- hypertension (alcohol-containing tinctures of rose hips are prohibited);
- increased acidity of the stomach and frequent bouts of heartburn;
Pregnant women should use rosehip very carefully, and it is better to consult a doctor in advance.
If a person has undergone surgery to remove the gallbladder, then you can’t do without a preliminary visit to the doctor.
And one more important tip - after drinking tea, infusion, decoction or syrup from rose hips, be sure to rinse your mouth with clean water, so you protect the tooth enamel from exposure to acids.
Rosehip how to brew and how to drink
There are many recipes for this case. All of them are good and useful in their own way, but these three are considered the most common, one might say, classic:
- The berries are scrolled in a meat grinder or chopped with a blender, poured with water in a ratio of 1: 6, brought to a boil and boiled for 5-8 minutes. After insisting 1.5-2 hours, filter and drink like tea.
- A tablespoon of fruit (with a slide) is poured with a glass of boiling water, boiled for 10 minutes, insisted for 3 hours. After you can add a little honey for taste and drink 150 ml throughout the day.
- For 50 g of crushed berries take 0.5 l of boiling water, boil for 5 minutes, after which the broth is placed in a thermos and additionally insist 3-4 hours. You need to drink such an infusion of 125 ml (half a cup), three times a day for half an hour before or after meals.
Honey can always be added to taste, sugar is allowed, but honey is healthier.
How to brew wild rose in a thermos? There is nothing complicated: the berries should be well washed, after which they should be put in a thermos, pour boiling water and leave to insist all night. In the morning, the drink can be filtered, and the same berries re-pour boiling water and leave until the evening in a thermos.
It is important that the thermos was pre-treated with boiling water from the inside, and the fruits themselves were used no more than 2 times!
Approximate proportions: 3-4 handfuls of berries per 1 liter of boiling water, honey or sugar - 1-2 tbsp. spoons.
Remember that fruits should not be infused in a thermos for more than 8 hours, because after this period the beneficial components of the plant will begin to decay.
Also, if desired, you can add a little mint or lemon balm to the infusion. Sometimes they put a little dried fruit or citrus - so the drink acquires new shades of taste, without losing its healing properties. If you pre-chop the fruits, then a useful decoction will be ready much faster, after about 2 or 3 hours.
If you insist on a drink for children, then a single dose of the finished product should be divided in two (compared to adult dosages).
If you take a rosehip broth, what will be the benefits and contraindications?
Decoction, infusion, a pair of rose hips have similar recommendations for use, as well as similar warnings. About them it was written above, but I want to add that it is better to drink broths intermittently. Every 7-10 days, take a week break. Drinking a drink is best a little warm, but chilled is also useful. If the fruits were previously chopped, then they must be filtered especially carefully so that the villi do not get into the drink (they can irritate the gastric mucosa). To prepare the broth, you can use both dried and fresh berries.
Rosehip pressure increases or decreases?
This is an interesting question that worries everyone who begins to use wild rose for the first time. The action of drugs of natural origin is sometimes difficult to predict, but as for this plant, there is one caveat.
Rosehip alcohol infusion is best taken in the morning - it increases blood pressure and optimizes cardiac function.
But decoctions and infusions on the water, on the contrary, lower blood pressure, have a calming effect, help to cope with tachycardia, normalize sleep. In the treatment of urological and gynecological ailments, as well as gastric, the rosehip decoction should not be too concentrated, diluted with water.
The standard duration of treatment is an average of 2-3 weeks, but prior consultation with a doctor will never be superfluous in this case.

And I would like to give one more tip in the end - listen to your body, he will tell you when it is better to take this or that herbal medicine.
Who helped the rose hip, reviews and personal experience
Rose hips rarely buy in a pharmacy. As a rule, I collect them at my summer cottage or in the forest, when we go out for mushrooms and come across bushes of wild forest rosehips. I dry them at home on a sheet of food foil, right with the “tails”, I don’t cut anything off. I make vitamin tea with dry rose hips or add to fruit compotes. My family likes both tea and compote. To get a richer color and taste, you need a drink with rose hips infused. Ideally, leave it for 8-10 hours. Then we get a beautiful brown color and a pleasant taste of the drink with vitamins. It is very good to prepare and drink such tea during the period of flu epidemics to strengthen immunity.

Rosehip is really useful for the heart, lowers cholesterol, pressure. But with thrombophlebitis, the dogrose should not be given. And also with heart failure 3 degrees. This is a cardiologist told me. Rosehip contains large amounts of vitamin K, and it increases blood viscosity, increasing the risk of blood clots.

For several years, my mother has been constantly making broth from rose hips, onion husks, and spruce branches. Then it adds lemon and honey to the ready-made broth, for taste and greater benefit .. This remedy helps well from pressure and removes toxins from the body. And personally, I just love a rosehip broth instead of tea) Only then must you brush your teeth so that the acid does not spoil the tooth enamel.

Rosehip infusion is very useful in the autumn-winter period to strengthen immunity, as a good source of vitamin C. Tested by myself: I drank 3-4 cups a day, practically did not have a cold or flu.

Our family has already become a good tradition - with the onset of cold weather we refuse all other teas, except from rose hips. Having once tasted this drink, we noticed that in the winter, our children began to get sick much less.

Rosehip grows in my garden, blooms beautifully, and the smell ... just wonderful. He can decorate any front garden. I pick wild rose hips in the fall until frost and then dry. In winter we brew and drink instead of tea with the whole family.

Today, in the program “Live Healthy”, one participant spoke about the benefits of some plants. I liked how she said about the dog rose. “His broth will help calm your nerves, and if you have something wrong with your head, he also helps very well.”

The root of the dog rose is very good at removing any stones. The broth works like this: within 2 to 3 days, the stones are saturated with a decoction of the root and then crumble, turning into sand. This makes it possible to completely remove them from the body. The broth is prepared as follows: pour 2 tablespoons of the finely chopped root with boiling water. Boil in a water bath for 15 minutes. Cool to room temperature, strain. Drink a third glass 3 times a day. When using, be careful - it is harmful to the teeth, so drink through a tube or rinse your mouth after ingestion. To give flavor before boiling the root, you can add 5 to 6 pieces of dried rose hips, after crushing them. The course of treatment, depending on the size, quantity and type of stones from 1 to 4-5 months.If the body is predisposed to the formation of stones, it is recommended for preventive purposes to drink a decoction of rosehip root 2 times a year for a month - in spring and autumn. The root has an antiseptic, astringent property, so it is a good prophylactic for kidney disease or hypothermia.

About the teeth - not so nonsense. Rosehip broth has high acidity, which negatively affects tooth enamel. Decoction of the roots affects the outflow of bile. So everything needs to be taken in moderation and after consultation with the doctor.
