Typically, the user suspects that the pump is broken when he takes out wet laundry from the tank. Sometimes the washing stops, not reaching the spin, with a full drum of water.
Do not rush to immediately replace the drain pump, perhaps the cause of the breakdown lies in another. To confirm the guesses, you need to diagnose the details of the washing machine.
Causes and signs of damage
How to make sure that the pump in the washing machine is not working? It is necessary to inspect and eliminate the malfunction of other parts. First, pay attention to the external signs of failure:
- The error code is displayed on the AGR. After reading its meaning, you understand that the cause is a malfunction of the pump or the drain system.
- The washing cycle goes as usual, but before draining the machine stops with a full tank of water.
- The pump does not turn on at all.
- The pump runs continuously, without stopping.
- Water drains very slowly.
- Draining occurs once, not after each wash.
Start your search with a simple check:
- Make sure spin mode is on. If the program "Delicate or Hand Wash" was selected, then the spin is automatically disabled. Select another program or increase the spin speed.
- Inspect the drain hose. It should be located exactly, not higher than the tank level. If it is not kinked, it is advisable to disconnect the hose and check for obstruction. Switch on drain mode by directing the hose into the sink. If the water flows normally, the sewer may be clogged.
If you are sure that the mode is set correctly, you need to check the drain.
- Open the small sunroof under the front panel.
- Substitute a container, unscrew the drain filter.
- Drain and clean the filter from debris.
- Shine in the hole in the housing where the filter was located.
- Inspect the impeller of the pump. Select the spin and see if the impeller rotates or not.
If the impeller does not fly off and stands still, check the pump. At the same time, the drain pipe is inspected.
How to get to the pump in different brands of SMA
Knowing where the pump is located, you will get to it quickly.
In the models SM “Samsung”, “Kandy”, “Ariston”, “Indesit”, Beko, Whirlpool, LG, you need to put the washer on its side and get to the pump through the bottom. How to do it:
- The machine is disconnected from the network and communications.
- Water drains from the filter.
- The dispensing tray is removed from the housing. From it, you also need to drain the remaining water.
- The machine neatly fits on its side. In order not to damage the case, you can lay a blanket on the floor.
In the brands of washing machines "Zanussi" and "Electrolux" you need to remove the back cover:
- After disconnecting all communications around the perimeter of the rear panel, all screws are loosened.
- On some models, the screws are hidden by plugs. They can be removed with a screwdriver.
- The panel slides to the side and inspection begins.
It’s longer and harder to get to the pump in the “Bosch”, “Siemens”, “AEG” models. Need to dismantle the front panel:
- The top cover is removed from the machine body.
- The dispensing tray is pulled out.
- The control panel is unscrewed and removed.
- The latches open, the base panel is removed.
- The manhole cuff clamp is detached. The cuff is refilled in the tank.
- The door lock bolts are unscrewed.
- The bolts securing the panel are removed and it is removed from the housing.
How to solve two main problems
Inspect and verify parts if the machine is not only flowing, but also not working or, conversely, working without interruption.
The pump is leaking, the washing machine is not working
Did you notice that the bottom cover of the washing machine is leaking? Water can flow directly from the bottom to the floor. Then it’s obvious that the pump is broken.
When you get to the pump, do this:
- Check the drain pipe; it may be defective and leaking. It could be damaged, or the clamp fastening between the pipe and the pump is loose.
- Turn off a bolt of a branch pipe and unclench a collar pliers.
- Remove it and inspect for blockage as well as damage. When the nozzle becomes clogged, this causes the washing machine to not drain the water.
- Now disconnect the wiring from the pump.
- Unscrew the fasteners and remove it from the housing.
Inspect the pump. Often hair and threads are wound around the impeller, due to which the pump wedges, and it does not pump water.
The pump cover is unscrewed - unscrew a few screws. Remove the snail. Check all gaskets for integrity.
You can check if the pump has burned out, you can use a multimeter, measuring the resistance on the windings.
The pump does not turn off, it works without stopping
When the pump works without shutting down, the problem may be in the control module. The electronic board controls the operation of all parts in the washing machine, and if it fails, such malfunctions are likely.
Damage to the pressure switch, as well as the circuit board, can cause problems with the pump. For example, when the pressure switch does not provide information about the amount of water in the tank, the module “does not know” that it needs to be drained. Consequently, the pump does not turn on or works without stopping, as if there was water in the tank.
Checking and replacing the board is best left to specialists, but the pressure switch can be replaced on its own.
- After removing the top cover from the machine, you will find a pressure switch near the wall.
- Having disconnected its tubes, check them for blockage, perhaps, after cleaning, the device will work normally.
- Unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the device from the tank.
Replace in the reverse order.
Proper operation will help prevent damage.
Save your washer in accordance with the manufacturer's rules:
- Do not overload the drum with laundry. Load the required rate, otherwise the details of the AGR will work for wear, and things will not normally wash.
- Always check clothing pockets before washing. Coins or seeds provoke a blockage of the drainage system.
- At least once a month, clean the drain filter of debris.
- Choose the right mode for each fabric. You should not constantly use fast and intensive washing. This leads to wear of the bearings and the formation of mold, since the fast mode takes place in cold water.
When it comes to clogging the system, the problem can be solved independently. But if the reason is in the module or pump, it is better to call the wizard for an accurate diagnosis.
